wrest are a four-piece indie rock band based in Edinburgh, formed in 2017 after a chance meeting between some of the members at an Edinburgh open mic night. Singer and guitarist Stewart Douglas comes from Falkirk; the rest of the band are from Dumfries.
Their sound has been described as hypnotic, delay-infused picked melodies set against soaring rock guitars, carrying lyrics that are emotionally charged and often melancholic. Reviewers reaching for comparisons tend to land on Frightened Rabbit, Biffy Clyro and The Twilight Sad — though Douglas's unmistakably Scottish vocal keeps the band firmly its own thing.
They remain unsigned and release their own music. They also set up their own promotions company to book their shows, which now handles bookings for a number of other acts across the UK.
